Mount Desert Medical Center is a non-profit organization founded by local citizens in 1966 to assure that the citizens of Mount Desert would continue to have local access to medical and dental care. The Center was built on donated land in 1967 with monies raised locally through efforts of year-round residents and the summer community. The organization has a volunteer board of directors whose responsibilities include maintaining the building, grounds and assuring that its mission is met by securing medical professionals who will provide primary care and ancillary services.
