YWCA MDI is one of over 200 associations that make up YWCA USA, a national organization with a Mission to Eliminate Racism, Empower Women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA is a founding member of the MDI Racial Equity Working Group, providing workshops and raising awareness of issues of racism, and working with other like-minded organizations to plan and implement an annual Juneteenth celebration and commemoration. The largest program of YWCA MDI which empowers women is providing year-round and seasonal, safe and affordable lodging, and beginning in 2023, developing a property to create a vibrant, healthy, and attainable year-round residential community for families and individuals who want to live on Mount Desert Island. This will be achieved by constructing missing middle concept rental housing.
